Wise Words

Good Morning World!

I kicked off my day with a 30min Vibe class. That’s basically a Powerplate class (make sense?). Well let’s just say it killed my legs. I never thought that anything that would feel this nice during class would make me wobble my way to work.

Speaking of work, I got my permanent contract yesterday! 1 month sooner than expected! She-BANG!

With the bank holiday weekend ahead (what, no bank holiday in your neck of the woods? Sorry!!) I thought I better relax with “The West Wing” (bored yet?) and some classes at Frame (bored yet?).
Basically it’s all stuff that makes me a happy camper. I will probably spend most of my time in my PJs. GLORIOUS!

What are you going to do this weekend to make YOU happy??
(Maybe help some kids?? Hint hint… http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KarinOnTheRun)

In case you’re feeling blue; here are some quotes by the lad above that will help you kick-start your weekend on the right foot:

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. ”

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”

“If you can, help others; if you cannot do that, at least do not harm them.” (*cough* –> http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KarinOnTheRun *cough*)

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”

“It is very important to generate a good attitude, a good heart, as much as possible. From this, happiness in both the short term and the long term for both yourself and others will come.”

“Sleep is the best meditation.”

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”

Love, K.

Pictures of sport events are rather hilarious.

Last Saturday’s race pictures almost made me pee my pants so it would be a shame to not share them with you..

It started off quite ok.. (although.. what the hell is so interesting on the right side?)

And then it even got a bit cool. (Check out that stride!)

And then it got downright silly.

I challenge you to find a picture that is more idiotic than the one above. I’m betting five quid that you won’t find one.

Tunes

Category : Uncategorized

Oh festivals.Sunshine (and more often than not rain), overpriced beer, crowded crowds and musicians with egos the size of Brazil.

But what the heck. We love them.

Highlights of the past weekend:

^^ Noah & The Whale (the hair!!)
^^ Brandon Flower’s arms
^^ My friends. And my family.
^^ The hill
^^ Jamie Cullum’s adorable personality
^^ Someone who randomly told me that she knows my blog (Hiya! That was hilarious!!)
^^ Garlic bread

Unfortunately I missed the Angus & Julia Stone gig. Well only kinda unfortunately because I had cake with my grandparents and mum instead. Priorities!

If you don’t make it to a festival this year I recommend you to listen to these records:

Perfect summer tunes (especially if it doesn’t really feel like summer.. )!

I still don’t have internet at home (from time to time – if I’m lucky – I manage to find some illegally haha) so who knows when I get this published.. I might be old and grey by then.

Happy dancing!
Love, Karin xx

Have I ever mentioned that I have a tattoo?

No?

Oh well..

IMG_0785

I got one in El Salvador and never really told anyone –apart from my fam- (because in the end it’s only a tattoo..) but I know that certain friends will react like: “OH MY F…ING GOD YOU HAVE A TATTOO????”.

Relax. It’s not like I got a boob job.

You know what my mum said?

“It could be worse”.

And she hates hates HATES tattoos. (In case you didn’t know: In Japan tattoos are pretty common among the mafia.) It must be love then. haha.

What graces my wrinkly foot now is a combination of the OM sign and Ganesha. And I love it.

Days Like These

If your friends are out for a drink and you’re curled up on your bed, sobbing, then something’s not the way it’s supposed to be.

You have new friends, you are not supposed to feel so utterly lonely.

You are happy and yet you’re crying.

The tears flow until you feel you’re completely empty. And then you receive a text message from your sister, saying that she’s proud of you and that you’re the best and that she misses you.. and the tears start flowing again. And you would give everything for a hug.

And yet you know how silly the crying is. How irrational. How weird.

And after a while you lay still and calm down. And then you get better.

Because in the end of the day it was you who made the choice to move to an other country, to juggle everything on your own. But you realise that you never really are alone. You have your family. Your friends. And even if they’re not here they are here.

And you get up and face the day. Content. Because you know that you chose to go that path on your own. And you have to take the good with the bad. And you’re OK because you know that even though life is sometimes scary and lonely, you will always have people around you who love you. No matter what.

&& If my blog turns from food blog to travel blog to “I don’t know where the heck I am” blog then don’t be mad at me.

Life is ever-changing.

And there are way too many things I feel passionate about. It would be silly to just write about one tiny part of the whole universe.

No Cuts! (and Keira + Sienna)

Things hardly get boring in London (except if you’re doing your homework while waiting for your laundry to be done.)

While I was trying to get used to being a student again (LOVE! my classes though), Mr Osborne presented the new budget which naturally called for a demonstration.

So yesterday, when I went into town with my roomie Rebecca (to go to Whole Foods of course), we ran into a demonstration and some policemen.

No idea what Topshop had to do with this though..

Other exciting things that happened this week:

  • - Went to Tate Modern to check out an exhibition
  • - Saw Keira Knightley on the street
  • - Saw her bestie Sienna Miller in Flare Path (good play, not brilliant, but lovely)
  • - Went out to a club called Fabric (think: loud, strange music) and had a headache the following day because of the obviously cheap white wine I drank
  • - Yoga! (I almost died on that mat. Several times.)

Things could not be better. :)

Q: As a student, what food did/do you eat regularly? I’m basically living off sandwiches, pasta, salad and granola right now..
