Eating Out

Enlisted

Posted in Dinner, Eating Out on July 27th, 2010 by Karin – 3 Comments

I don’t particularly make lists for every little thing but when I’m busy and need to get certain things done before a deadline (aka in my case: the holiday) or just have to remember certain things such as what to pack.. I make lists.

Damn, I just remembered that I forgot to write down the PJs. See? That’s why lists are great. I’d forget tons of things otherwise. (“Wait a second, my passport is right..FFFFUUUUU..dge!”)

SNB14941

In the last couple of days I became a crazy lists-lady. I made lists for everything..
What to pack
What I still had to buy
Which projects I have to pass on to my colleague
What I must finish at work before I leave
What the names of my former boyfriends are

;)

I really like ticking things off.

Tonight I wasn’t particularly feeling like going to pilates class so I went and had dinner with my sister (who ditched class too). We’re quite rebellious you see. ;)

SNB14933

I love it when restaurants have good bread. This lovely piece was so moist and flavourful (tons of olives!)

The restaurant generally went a bit heavy on the sauce though..

SNB14934

Under the green leaves is a small sea of oil. I swear I could have taken a swim in there.

Gnocchi.. I love gnocchi.
I also love olive oil but boy.. do you see that lake?

SNB14935

Over the top.

It’s a bit odd.. I already took out my contacts assuming that I could simply put on my glasses. Well, I forgot them at my boyfriend’s place.
So I’m currently writing this while having my eyes oddly squeezed together. I probably look like I chewed on some lemon.

I will post a recipe tomorrow that still makes me think that I’m dreaming. I will test the final product in the morning but if it’s really as great and simple as I imagine I’m sure that it’s going to be the bomb dot com.

There, I said it. Bomb dot com. I’ve always wanted to do that.

Night kids!

Random veggie tip of the day:
Don’t order risotto (especially in Italy) without asking about the broth first. Even vegetable risotto is often made with chicken broth!

Cleanse.

Posted in Breakfast, Dinner, Eating Out, Health, Lunch, Snacks, Working Out on June 29th, 2010 by Karin – 9 Comments

My friend Kirsty told me yesterday about a cleanse she’ll do, starting today. It’s quite simple: Lots of veggies, grains, protein in form of fish, chicken, eggs and tofu. Well I don’t eat chicken or fish (and neither does she) but decided to join her. Mainly because I like “experiments” like these –> Challenges that aren’t too challenging ;) .

I don’t expect it to make me feel completely different because it’s only for three days and I usually eat the same food anyway (I just have to give up on wheat, chocolate and dairy – which is easy since I can live a few days without bread, pasta and chocolate and I rarely eat dairy anyway).

But yeah, I’m doing a “cleanse”.

Tam Tam Tam

When people hear that word they first think of ridiculous juice fasts or other silly things (master cleanse anyone?). I don’t believe in starving, even if you’ll feel “great” afterwards. Fasts/Cleanses that are based on juices might be do-able for some people but not for me. I like chewing. ;)

So in spirit of the cleanse I decided to turn this blog into a food journal for three days. Are you ok with this?

Yes?

Good. :)

Breakfast was a massive bowl of cold oatmeal (1/3 c oatmeal cooked with 1 c water and ½ banana the night before) with soy yogurt, the other half of the banana, hemp seeds and blueberries (as well as two lone raspberries). You know, I REALLY don’t like berries in hot oatmeal. Something about that bitterness makes me gag. In fact, the only fruit I like in hot oatmeal is banana.

SNB14694

SNB14695

Mid-morning snack was a wonderful nectarine that was incredibly sexy to eat.

SNB14696

(It kind of pretends to be an apple in this picture.)

Ok, I know that white rice is like blasphemy in the healthy food blogger world but my boss and co. had a lunchtime meeting and my colleague and I decided to order sushi as well. That was last week when I didn’t know anything about that cleanse back then. Oh well. It was a huge but great lunch :) . (And actually also completely fine with the cleanse rules)

SNB14697

I had another “impossible-to-eat-in-front-of-other-people” afternoon snack. Watermelon. Hot.

SNB14698

No surprise that the watermelon left me starving when I got back home so I nibbled on some gluten free & vegan crackers that I recently found at the organic food store.

SNB14699

Oh god. I’m addicted. I had approximately 3x of what’s shown above.

Dinner was with my sister Selina before Pilates class. We went to the good old tibits and I got all sorts of yummy things and a green juice!

SNB14700

Workout for the day:

-1 h pilates class
-lots of walking (actually more than usual..)

Other “rules” of the cleanse are as follows (in case you were wondering):

How to eat
*Meals should be regular – three a day, and a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack.
*Eat moderate helpings of good lean protein with main meals: fish, eggs, chicken, tofu
*Dandelion coffee, ginger (in tea or added to juice of food) and nettle tea all good for cleansing/supporting the liver.

NO to
alcohol
processed food (except tofu)
no sugar
no red meat
no caffeinated drinks
no wheat or dairy
very little salt

Yes to:
drink at least 2 litres of water/herbal tea a day
eat plenty of vegetables except white potatoes
good veg for detox = artichokes, beetroot, bean and seed sprouts, carrots, pumpkin, red cabbage, spinach, sweet potato, tomato, watercress
Cruciferous veg = broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, brussel sprouts – important in supporting the key conjugation pathway to the liver
Eat fruit. Esp good for detoxing – apples, fresh apricots, berries, cantaloupe, melon, citrus, kiwi, papaya, peaches, mango and dark grapes.
Grains – a half tennis ball sized helping of brown rice, corn, millet, oats or quinoa
Pulses
Nut & seeds (great for snacks with some fruits)
Oils – use extra virgin olive oil or flaxseed oil.
LEMON WATER

Each morning, start the day with half a lemon squeezed into a glass of hot water.

Here’s how Day 1 is supposed to look like: (The other days are really similar)

Day 1
First thing: Lemon water
before you shower or bathe: – skin brushing
During the day : a brisk walk to help circulation
Treatment Body scrub
Bed: Try to be in bed by 10pm- read or listen to restful music if you can’t sleep

Dang. No skin brushing was done. And it’s already 10:41pm. Oops! Time to go to bed!

Q: What do you think of cleanses? Ok I’ll admit it; it’s quite silly to call this (in my case) a cleanse since I mainly eat that way anyway. However, I’ll just take it as a chance to be more aware of what I eat – in a good way. Sometimes I nibble on things mindlessly – who doesn’t? – but it’s nice to focus on good food for a few days.
As for cleanses: I’m not a huge fan (since I’m lacking major will power). Other reasons for my dislike are stated above :)

London Recap

Posted in Breakfast, Eating Out, Lunch, Travelling on June 5th, 2010 by Karin – 9 Comments

I’m currently supposed to get ready for a birthday party and should finish cleaning (I moved tons of furniture today – got to use my sister’s former room :) ) but I’ll just blog. Finto.

So are you ready for a London recap?

“YEAAAAAH!”

Ok ok so here it goes :)

As I mentioned before we got to the hostel pretty late. It’s funny, even though I earn well I rather save some $$ and stay in hostels instead of more expensive hotels. However, I usually don’t stay in dorms but in London we didn’t have much of a choice since we were 2 girls and one guy and had to get a mixed room. It was fine though. One dude came back home super drunk and threw up in the bathroom, the other one snored like there was no tomorrow and the dude from South Dakota (I think) thought that everything was “AWESOME!!!!!”.

Anyway… on Saturday we met up with a friend who lives in London which was lovely. We had lunch at a pub in Camden.

Whole Foods was right next to it but that store wasn’t as fabulous as the one near the Piccadilly station.

SNB14387

They had some amazing vegan cupcakes though..

SNB14388

Selina said that it looks like poo. Which is kind of true but it was delicious!

SNB14390

We shopped a lot, mainly for clothes for Silvio. It was hilarious! I also got a Diana Mini lomography camera.

SNB14401

I’m already in love! I sent the film in today and will get the photos back on Wednesday – I can’t wait! Old fashioned photo cameras are fantastic.

For some reason I didn’t take that many pictures during our stay.. I snapped a lot of pics with the lomo and will scan and post the good ones as soon as I get them.

SNB14429

On the next day we had plans to go to Rough Trade (east) and remembered from our last visit that there was a fantastic looking pizza place right there as well. So we went there for lunch and I have to say that this place is now probably my Nr. 1 favourite restaurant. Yes it was that good. Unfortunately I have no idea how it’s called (it somehow has no sign.. kind of an insider restaurant actually ;) ). I was pleasantly surprised when I read on the menu that all of their food is organic. Hooray!

I decided to order the pizza with pumpkin, goat’s cheese, chickpeas, sage, red onion and tomatoes.

Oh my god.

SNB14433

Ok it looks burnt and awful (I didn’t eat the burnt part) but I wasn’t patient enough to take a good picture (mainly because I was starving).

SNB14434

There was arugula too!

It was such a crazy mouth party, I honestly couldn’t believe my taste buds! The pizza was really special – the crust was very thin and crispy and they added the toppings after it was baked.

SNB14435

When you’re in London, you just have to go there. It’s literally across the street from Rough Trade.

SNB14436

On the next day we finally checked out the Portobello Market.

SNB14439

We saw a super funky shop that was decorated with old sewing machines.

SNB14437

It was quite crazy actually – sewing machines everywhere!

SNB14438

SNB14442

I love markets.

Afterwards we hung out in Green Park and laters in Hyde Park (a day of parks indeed) and got a visit from a squirrel!

SNB14450

It was quite weird to see a squirrel that wasn’t scared of humans. Kind of not so cool (since you don’t really know what people give it to eat..) but cute nevertheless.

SNB14454

We gave it some raw nuts. I hope that is ok. ;)

SNB14452

My eats varied… I had tons of fantastic salads (thank god for M&S!)

SNB14392

SNB14397

(Sexy eating is not possible)

But I also had ice cream, said cupcake, beer… and this here:

SNB14458

A stay in London without a proper (vegetarian) English breakfast? Definitely a no-go. ;)

Well I’ve got to go now or I’ll be late. I can’t wait to see how those lomo pics turned out though!

Q: Do you sometimes still use old cameras (with film and all)? I usually use my digi cam but now that I have that lomo I can’t wait to use it more often (even though it looks like a kid’s toy ;) ). I really like not knowing how the pictures turn out.

Have a wonderful Saturday!

London Calling

Posted in Breakfast, Eating Out, Travelling on May 28th, 2010 by Karin – 13 Comments

Hello from London!
We’re currently in the pub below the hostel – eating breakfast. :)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Our plane was more than 1hr late and we ended up getting to the hostel at 1:30am. Despite our late arrival I was wide awake at 5am. Excited about our stay much? ;) Anyway, we got up at 6:30am, got ready and explored the area a bit. We’re staying near Pimlico which is an ok area but not very familiar to me. We ended up having a (first) breakfast at Prêt A Manger!

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s probably my favourite chain “restaurant” because it uses natural food and often organic products. I had a “yoga bunny” yogurt (haha), cappuccino, water and hippie drink.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Oh and my eyes started shining when they brought in some edamame and I knew that we had to get some as well. ;)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

I could eat edamame for the rest of my life and be a happy person.

We’re currently waiting for our friend Christine to get here. She should arrive in about 30 minutes. For some reason we have some issues with our adaptor (it somehow doesn’t fit?!?!) and I don’t know if this laptop will have power for long. We’ll see. I hope that I can blog though. hehe.

Got to keep this short and tight. The power, you know.. got to keep that in mind if I want to continue blogging during our stay.

Blog reading won’t be possible but I’ll catch up with you guys when I get back, kay? (Guess you all understand that I prefer to spend my time talking to people and enjoying my time in London – and not in front of the laptop). :) Love you all though! hehe

I hope you’re having a great time as well! Enjoy your Fridays! The weekend’s near!

ps: your random facts are hilarious and so interesting! Though also kind of scary… Kalli got ran over two cars! Scary scary indeed.
You should go and check out all the other random facts too :)

Fat Talk

Posted in Breakfast, Dinner, Eating Out, Lunch, Positive Thinking on May 17th, 2010 by Karin – 11 Comments

Yesterday’s run was hard.
I stomped around like a little child and constantly told myself what a fat, slow cow that I was.
In the end I finished the 10 miles in 1:39 mainly because I walked most of the last 5 miles. Not because I was that exhausted but because I was pissed off.

Being the drama queen that I am, I marched right past my boyfriend and dad at the end of the course.

But what made me behave like this?

Well let’s back up a little..
It all started nice and easy. Dad, Silvio and I walked to the nearby forest (where a cool 11 miles loop is) to warm up a little and I was really excited about the run. I knew that it was going to be a training run and therefore harder than leisurely runs. However, for some reasons long runs really relax me. In general. Not so much yesterday.

The first 5 miles were hard but doable. I wasn’t that far behind the two tall (think: very long legs) guys and it didn’t feel like I was dying. However, the next 5 miles were really really hard. It was ok that the guys ran ahead but I assumed that we would run the entire course together or else I wouldn’t have started that fast. And even though I thought that they should run their own pace I felt completely left alone.
You know that I’m usually a really happy person but it scares me that it sometimes doesn’t take much to make me feel really bad about myself. Thinking back I can’t believe that I constantly thought (during the run) what a slow and fat pig I was.

Come on! Fat?? Seriously? It really freaks me out that I sometimes consider myself as fat but I honestly don’t know how to stop myself. I’ve changed a lot and really like myself now (which sounds silly.. though it’s the truth) but the “old self” sometimes creeps back and makes me feel like the worst person on earth.

When I’m at my lowest I think that I do not deserve happiness and that no one really likes me anyway. It’s got nothing to do with self-pity, however, I sometimes really loathe myself. And for no reason!!

I am really ashamed of this because 98% of the time I really am at peace with everything.

There has been lots of improvement though. After finishing yesterday’s run I continued to be frustrated (“and I am so fat and slow and I AM NOT GOING TO RUN THIS RACE!!!!”) and behaved like a child. My dad said something like “you know, only 5% of all people could run this distance. Just think of all the lazy teenagers with their baggy pants!” and so on and my frustration wore off after 5 minutes. I’m glad that I don’t spend days feeling absolutely miserable anymore. Yes, I have my bad moments but I get over them pretty quickly too.

Still.. there’s something underneath it all that makes me think that I’m fat or not worthy of love. And even though I know that I shouldn’t take it seriously, I have to get rid of these thoughts.

I want to stop thinking that I’m bad. Once and for all. The only problem is that I don’t know how I should do that.

Any tips? :)

I realize that most bloggers – myself included – write about stopping fat talk and loving your body but rarely ever admit that they do think of themselves as fat sometimes. Why should we ignore this “weakness”? Because we as bloggers should be an inspiration to other people? I think that we should just be honest and write about things that bother us, even if that means that we have to admit that we have weaknesses. We’re normal people after all and far from perfect. ;)

Q: Do you struggle with fat talk? Do you sometimes struggle with something else and don’t feel like you can admit it?

This post has been pretty heavy in words (I think it makes up for the lack of words in my last posts ;) ) but let’s move on to pictures!

My eats have been far from exciting but I had dinner with my sister at Kabuki (a Japanese restaurant) which was really nice. Afterwards we went and saw the new Robin Hood film which I really liked.

We haven’t seen each other that often for the past few days and really needed to catch up. It’s weird: When she was at home, I was away (and vice versa).

Breakfast was the reincarnation of the god of boredom.
1 kiwi, 1 apple, 2 buns with honey.
Excited already? ;)

SNB14263

Lunch was a huge salad and a banana. The salad was nice (and the banana too, of course) but yet again not so exciting.

SNB14264

Remember when I said that I wasn’t a huge fan of fake meat? Well there’s one exception. Those “spacebars” aka, seitan sausages. They’re fantastic.

SNB14266

Dinner started with a lovely cup of green tea…

SNB14267

…followed by some miso soup.

SNB14268

For my main course I chose the takuan (pickled daikon) hoso maki and shared an avocado and tamago (egg) hosomaki with my sister.

SNB14269

We still had some time to kill so we went to a lovely nearby restaurant called Pangäa which was fab. I got the “Drinkable chocolate” with cinnamon/banana flavour. Erm… drinkable chocolate?

SNB14270

Well you actually put that piece of chocolate into your hot milk. I LOVED it! (I also loved the fact that the chocolate was fair trade and organic). I will go back and try all their flavours soon. ;)

Sel and I also shared some popcorn at the cinema. We were both starving (I guess these 10 miles are catching up with me). :)

Ok I’m off to bed now. Thanks for reading dear people. Oh and also thanks for the comments on my last post. My toe is fine – just slightly swollen but walking doesn’t hurt so I think it isn’t injured.. thank god. ;)

Battle Of The Curries

Posted in Breakfast, Dinner, Eating Out, Lunch on May 5th, 2010 by Karin – 16 Comments

Ahoi friends! We just got back from watching a fabulous improvisation theatre play – I love small but fun cultural events!!

Anyway it seems like most of you stick to water during/after a workout. Hooray! Team water! However, I think that taking care of your electrolytes is really important too – especially after a long activity such as running or cycling. As I said before.. I’m all for coconut water. Now I only wish that it would be cheaper!

My day started off with some fruit salad, hemp-nola and some heavenly blog reading. (My mum busted into the room at 6am. Thank heaven for an additional hour of sleep!)

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Work was super nuts. The internet didn’t work (oh the joy!) but I didn’t need it anyway so that was ok. For some reason I was super busy.

I quickly went back home at lunch time to get some workout clothes. Needless to say that I was starving when I got back to the office at 1:30pm and finally got to eat lunch.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Beets, zucchini and a carrot.

Now here’s a confession: I used to hate beets! I’m still not a huge fan but I’m starting to like them :) . Baby steps my friends, baby steps!

I naturally also had some hummus…

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

And also some bread with almond butter and banana

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Before we headed to the “theatre” (in fact it’s quite an alternative place and reallllly low-key) we went and had dinner at Mishio.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

I haven’t had spring rolls in ages but we shared some for starters tonight.

For my main meal I chose the red curry with tofu.

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Thai food is fantastic!

Ok, I really have to get some sleep in. See you tomorrow!

Q: I know that there are lots of different kinds but if you’d have to choose…
Do you prefer Indian or Thai curry???
I honestly can’t answer that question because both cuisines offer such a great experience for the taste buds ;)

Greens At The Greenhouse

Posted in Breakfast, Concerts, Eating Out on May 3rd, 2010 by Karin – 17 Comments

This weekend was so much needed and soooo good to the soul :) . I hope you had a good one too!

The past week has been insane indeed but I hope that everything will calm down a bit now.. starting with today! :) I actually have the day off and have to get lots done such as buying new running shoes, cleaning the apartment (!!), groceries shopping, making holiday plans with Simone…

I am really sorry that my posts have been so scarce but this will hopefully change asap ;) .

Saturday’s plans were definitely cancelled as it was raining. Hiking just isn’t that much fun in this weather. So after some discussion we decided to go to Lucerne where we went to the IMAX, walked along the lake, went to a comics exhibition and then got on a boat where we played yahtzee for two hours. The boat ride was lovely, despite the awful weather..

SNB14180

SNB14181

SNB14183

SNB14186

We ended up in the very heart of Switzerland (you know, where they still yodel and such.. hehe kidding, sort of..). Afterwards we headed to Zurich for dinner.

Silvio’s brother knew a place and so we took the bus to nowhere and were wondering where on earth that restaurant was.

All of a sudden we found it: The greenhouse!

I’ve never been to such a cool restaurant in my life. It was literally in a greenhouse and looked like a jungle.

SNB14191

SNB14192

I got a plate full of veggies and rice and was a happy camper. (No pics though.. the lightning was awful!!)

^^^^^

As you probably know, Sweden’s one of my favourite countries. Every year I’m thrilled when it’s time for the Sweden weeks. It offers an amazing programme such as great readings, viewings and concerts of Swedish films and bands, a special Swedish beer and so on.

On yesterday’s programme was a Swedish brunch at the Altes Tramdepot. I knew that we had to go there.

Unfortunately we arrived at the restaurant at 11:15am and only had 15 minutes left until the buffet closed. So we decided to load up our plates.

I’m horrible when it comes to buffets, especially when I don’t have much time.

I grabbed everything in sight…

SNB14194

SNB14195

SNB14196

Yes that was all for me. After eating the eggs and rösti I was full to the brim. Ha! Not much of a surprise huh? I think I ended up eating 2/3 of everything. Oh my god. that was WAY too much food.

Needless to say that I only had a salad for dinner. ;)

This definitely wasn’t my best healthy eater behaviour but you should have seen this buffet, it was insane! ;)

The weekend ended with an amazing Yann Tiersen concert. He played some of his most famous songs (from the film Amélie) very very differently (think: on a violin, synthesizer and guitar instead of the piano or the accordion). I loved that he gave the songs such a creative new twist!

Q: Weekend highlights??? Mine was the boat ride, brunch and concert. I feel really lucky ;)

Yoga Cures Everything

Posted in Dinner, Eating Out, Lunch, Positive Thinking, Sweets, Yoga on April 30th, 2010 by Karin – 10 Comments

When I was walking to yoga after work I was completely stressed out. All I wanted to do was to curl up in bed and hide from this world for a couple of weeks.

And then we did all sorts of poses that I absolutely hate and I was cursing up a storm on the inside but pushed through it.

And in shavasana I felt pure bliss.

Life is like yoga: there are a lot of things that get in your way that you don’t like but you just have to suck it up and go through it. And you know what? It’s not too bad.

As I was walking to the open air cinema site after yoga (yes! open air cinema in April!) to go and see “The Big Lebowski” with my friends I realized that I was the one who put unnecessary stress on myself.

First of all it was all for pleasure. It’s not like I had to study hard for an exam! I played squash with my friends, had great dinners, went to a runner’s event with my dad and so on.. it’s all things that I wanted to do!

So why the heck was I complaining? Well I guess I just often wish that I wouldn’t want to do so many things at once. And to be honest, I just wanted a night off for myself for some blogreading, hehe..
But again, I wanted to do these things or else I would have been a bit annoyed.

Sorry for the rant but maybe I’m not the only one who sometimes feels like that.

I set my alarm for 5am though it’s nearly 00:30am. Guess that sleeping in for an other hour is ok ;) .

Tomorrow we’ll spend the day with Silvio’s family and I have no idea what we’ll do. Hiking was planned but it’s supposed to rain like crazy. So we’ll see.

Despite my whining there has been some amazing stuff going on. Like the chocolate banana cake that I made for my friend Simone on Wednesday (which was my secret mission – she sometimes reads the blog so I couldn’t write about it. ;) )

SNB14166

SNB14167

SNB14169

SNB14170

Also.. I think I found the best sandwich ever. Tibits makes a great one with asparagus, sundried tomato paste, bear’s garlic pesto (with tofu), tomato and lettuce. (I had it before but fell in love again hehe)

SNB14171

To. Die. For.

Too bad that it’s only a spring-offer. Good that I ate the exact same sandwich today for lunch again. ;)

It tastes especially well with a green juice and some magazine on the side..

SNB14172

For Simone’s birthday we went and had dinner at an Indian restaurant yesterday! We started with samosas and something else… Ha! I ordered it but forgot the name. Too bad..

SNB14173

SNB14174

SNB14175

I had a veggie curry with garlic naan which was heavenly.

SNB14176

My camera’s battery died right after taking this photo.

So you see, life isn’t all too bad. Though I must say that too much good stuff often sometimes put unnecessary stress on us too..

I guess it’s time for bed. Or better: my yantra mat!

SNB14178

I read so many good things about it and decided to order one. It arrived today and I can’t wait to try it and loosen up my neck and back muscles.

SNB14177

Whoooo party time!

Have a wonderful weekend! I just realized that it’s already May now. What the eff?? Where did the time go?

Weekend In Annecy

Posted in Breakfast, Dinner, Eating Out, Family, Lunch, Running, Travelling on April 19th, 2010 by Karin – 18 Comments

What a wonderful weekend that was! We arrived at the camping place in Doussard (which is close to Annecy) at 11:45am (after getting lost a bit.. ;) ) and I still can’t believe that you can get there so fast.

SNB14021

The group went paragliding in the morning but they returned just when we arrived at the camping site.

After some chatting they went off again and I laced up my Asics. I did a nice and easy 6 miles on a road which is mainly for bikers (no cars allowed). The weather and view was gorgeous but the road itself was super boring. That’s why I did a lot of running/walking/taking in the view. :)

SNB14022

Then I read a bit (I finished “The Elegance of the Hedgehog” and cried like a baby though I had to hide the crying because of the other people there.. ;) ) and chatted with the other women. It was so relaxing and lovely.

After the first group got back we decided to start making dinner. I hate doing nothing so I volunteered to make the pasta dish. I cooked what was suggested – pasta with mascarpone sauce and veggies.

SNB14025

I decided to wait for “my” boys (aka the dad and boyfriend) and eat dinner later. Too many crisps were enjoyed on the way to France ;) . The rest got back at 8:30pm or so and I made a second pot of pasta, as well as a veggie patty pour moi.

SNB14026

There was also some amazing cake that someone made and lots of wine ;) .

Ps: Yes, I packed way too much food. As expected. It seems like I’m not the only one who over-packs though.

Sunday started off with a nice cup of green tea and a huge breakfast.

SNB14028

Everyone was actually way older than me but we had such a fun time. Age is only a number and doesn’t really matter much anyway.

We then had to leave the camping site by noon and so we decided to go to Annecy and “explore” the town a bit (some of us have never been there before). Annecy has such a beautiful old town!! I completely fell in love.

SNB14034

There was a marathon (and half marathon) going on which was fun. Seeing the people run through the finish was great. I could have spent the entire day there but I’m not sure if the others would have liked that ;) .

I really like taking photos of markets even though none of the products (ok maybe except the wine and jam) really appeals to me..

It was rather difficult to find a restaurant where you could sit outside (because we were a group of 11 people). We found a nice crêperie though but had to split up. I got a crêpe (which was made with buckwheat) with onions, tomatoes, egg and salad.

I loved it but both my dad and boyfriend weren’t huge fans of theirs. Sigh…

Then it was time to go back home again! We arrived at my parent’s place at 6pm and had dinner together – lovely way to end a lovely weekend.

I can’t wait to go back to Annecy soon! It felt like we were on a holiday even though it was  rather “close” to home and only for two days.

By the way, do you remember the day when I forgot my camera at my parent’s place? Well I got my precious baby back and thought I’d share the photos of the homemade ravioli with you. This is hands down my favourite meal on earth. My mum makes everything from scratch, even the dough. The recipe is from Jamie Oliver’s first cookbook.

The (vegetarian) ravioli are filled with sundried tomatoes, mozzarella and basil and taste like heaven.

We always drizzle them with olive oil, pepper and parmesan cheese. A sauce would totally ruin the amazing flavours.

Mmmm these photos make me hungry! ;)

Anyway, I better be off now. I hope you had an amazing weekend too!

Take care!

Vampire Cake

It was so interesting to read your comments on my blood donation post. It seems like it’s different in every country.. Apparently in Japan you only donate 0.2 litre. Over here it’s 0.45  no matter how much you weigh (you just have to be heavier than 50kg/110 lbs).

A lot of you are scared of needles (or seeing blood) and I can totally understand that. It’s one huuuuge needle after all. I thought that I was going to freak out when I donated the first time but for some reasons it was pretty easy.. weird.

Danielle mentioned that she might pass out because of all the running she does. Does anyone have any information on that? I wondered what an impact running could have because I also run 3-5 times a week.

Anyway, yesterday was such an amazing day. It started off with rain + no umbrella. Ha. But I went and got a fantastic multi grain bagel at Tingel Kringel and didn’t let the rain ruin my mood.
Tingel Kringel such an adorable shop/café and sells all sorts of bagels, muffins and unusual (often vintage inspired) drinks, ice cream….

Sorry, the pic’s really blurry..

I topped my fabulous treat with some almond butter and apple slices.

Work was good and busy + for lunch I had some organic vegan spelt ravioli filled with veggies. Love!

I also had some tofu sausage. For some reasons I had a weird sausage craving (??)

After work I met up with my friends for squash (we always play squash on Thursdays in case you didn’t know) and afterwards I got a huge surprise.

See my title? Yeah I wasn’t kidding…

Hahaha.

I still don’t know what to say… I can’t believe that I have such wonderful friends ;) .

Parking lot shooting. Yeah we’re as classy as that. ;) .

But seriously.. these girls are AMAZING and definitely needed to be featured on my little blog.

I got the cake for my birthday btw and it’s vampire shaped because of a dream I had 6 months ago! (Which was about me being chased by vampires and an Edward Cullen who looked like Robin Hood. I know – it’s pretty weird ;) )

We went and had dinner at a new restaurant called Mishio. It opened on my birthday and I’ve been dying to go there because it offers healthy Asian food. I had vegetarian fried rice which wasn’t heavy on the oil – thank god. It was lovely.

You could also watch the cooks which is always great.

Afterwards we headed to my place for coffee and cake. I’m actually not a huge coffee fan (shocking, I know) but I sometimes enjoy a cup after dinner or so..

The cake is enormous! I had tons of leftovers and gave half to Silvio. The other half will be taken to France this weekend.

Yes to France.

..

.

;) I’ll spend the weekend in my neighbour country!!
I know this might sound super crazy to you considering the fact that I was in Italy only a few weeks ago. But Switzerland is such a tiny country- heck, most states of the USA are even bigger – and you can reach the border within 2 hours from Bern!
However, I must admit that I’ve never done any weekend trips to other countries before and this year’s travelling is really unusual. So don’t think that I’m always jetting around. ;)
It’s just that my dad and his mates will go paragliding and they asked me and my boyfriend if we wanted to come along. Silvio is a huge fan of paragliding as well and so he’s dying to go. It will be so nice to have a weekend off and just do things that I enjoy – such as running, yoga and lots of reading ;) .

Q: What are your plans for the weekend?

PS: Happy birthday Marina!! Welcome to the twenties, dear! :)
