The Small Shoes

Hello lovely people!

How are things? Tuesdays are always kind of better than Mondays and I’m currently watching old “The O.C.” episodes and wonder why that Hercules guy plays Ryan’s dad. I think that actor can pull nothing else than a leather skirt off. ;)

Anyway, do you want to hear more rant? No? Ok, I’ll ramble on anyway ;) .

My running shoes suck! I don’t mean the fancy Nike free but my “normal” Asics..

First of all they’re really start to hurt my feet. I also more and more have the feeling that it’s because they’re too small. I mean, my toes touch the.. front (front?? huh??).. Yesterday I was meant to run 3 miles but my feet hurt so much that I cut it down to two. For today’s run I used the Nikes but these shoes aren’t fit for races.

My real “problem” is that I haven’t had the Asics for long and I’m not really thrilled about buying a new pair of expensive running shoes (they are MUCH more expensive over here than in the states). However, I’d rather buy new shoes than spend a long time being injured.

It still sucks. What should I do with the Asics?

I went back home on lunch to pick up my cell phone that I forgot and found something in the mail waiting for me.

Yay! It’s the bar that I won in Tamzin’s giveaway! Thanks hun it made my day! (haha only foodies can be thrilled about receiving bars ;) )

You know what also thrilled me? The envelope!

I have a thing for cute stationery as I’ve been writing letters to pals for years. Even though I appreciate the internet and everything it has to offer it doesn’t beat snail mail.

After getting back into the city I still had some time to pop by the health food store. I got some staples (quinoa flakes, tea, tofu..) and a new to me product: Wasabi hummus!

I honestly don’t know what to think of it.. I guess it has to grow on me first.

The hummus worked well with some pepper..

Other fun stuff: I officially signed up for the Grand Prix of Bern 2010 today! It’s a 10 mile race that is going to take place on 22 May and I’m really excited.

Today I had 40 minutes of speed work on my schedule which went smoothly. Dinner was with the sis. It’s weird because even though we share an apartment we rarely eat dinner together! We’re busy people. ;)

I made some steamed fennel with basil tofu…

…and a salad with a sauce made of olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, pepper, salt, salad seasoning and estragon mustard.

+ a beer ;)

I’ve got to go and clean some stuff. Don’t get too excited, I can hardly contain myself either.

I hope you’ll have a lovely evening/day (depends on which time zone you’re in.. ;) )

Q: Have you ever had issues with running shoes? What did you do?

  1. Ahhhh, love that envelope!!!

I’ve bought new running shoes before, only to find after about a week that I really don’t like them. It sucks to suck it up and buy MORE new ones, but to me, it’s not worth it to run in discomfort or even risk injury. :-(

  2. That’s exciting about the race :D You should def. wear the right shoes for it- your toes shouldn’t be touching the front! I have the worst problem with my toes banging into the front of the shoe and as a result…I have some uglyyy feet. Go with the bigger size! lol

  3. Tamizn says:

Yay you received your bar coolio hope you like it x x

  4. Kelsey says:

u could give them to good will/used clothing.. or maybe do a giveaway on ur blog hehe. i know what u mean about shoes.. im still trying to find the right pair. everyone keeps saying “this brand is better than that one… dont buy this.. dont buy that…” but it comes down to ur foot shape and which brand matches it. supposedly new balance is a bad quality running shoe but its the only company that doesnt hurt my feet! i have a super high arch.. so someone with no arch would do bad with new balance.

anyways back to you my dear. im sorry theyre not working for ur feet. so dont force them to work and stick with what works. nothing like sore feet- its horrible!!

    xoxoxo lots of love

  5. A lot of races here have shoe donation booths to donate used running shoes in decent condition. I guess I’m not enough of a runner yet to have issues, I just got Asics because I’m planning to get more into it for spring races, we’ll see how they do!

  6. Ahh I miss snail mail! Getting letters was so much fun. The Internet, while extremely useful and convenient, still manages to take a lot away from certain life experiences. That being said, I can’t seem to stay away from it without feeling completely disconnected from the world. Sad.

I’ve never been a runner, so I can’t help you on the shoes, but I hope you come up with a solution soon. Never good to have sore feetsies.

  7. oh what a great race to sign up for! so sorry about your shoes….can you complain to the store in which you bought them? sometimes they may give you a credit to another pair of shoes. i tend to get sore feet anyway cuz i have very flat feet. so sorry love!

  8. Ildie says:

I’m not pro on proper running shoes since I’m just NOW starting to take baby steps towards running. They should definitely fee good on though and give your feet good support. You should probably look into a new pair before your big race and maybe donate the other pair. Or do what I do with old sneakers, save them for yard work. :)

  9. coco says:

I just got a new pair of running shoes. I love nike and always have nike, so I know my feet fits well in it. If I were you, I won’t use that asics again because you know your knee and feet is way more important than a pair of uncomfortable shoes.

  10. I love cute stationery too! Sorry about your shoe…
Hope you’re having a great week:)

  11. Agh! I’m sorry your Asics are hurting you! I say…you should cut a huge hole in the front of your shoe OR get new ones? I just got a new pair of Asics and they’re hurting me BAD. I’m too cheap to buy newer ones though :(

  12. sophia says:

Oh no, that sucks about the Asics…I would rather get new shoes, too. I use my running shoes a lot. What about giving it away to someone…
    Or ebay? Haha.

  13. kilax says:

They say your running shoes should be a half size to full size larger than your normal shoes. I wear 11 normal but 12 in running and haven’t had issues (I used to always get blisters on the fronts of my toes!). I would donate the Asics to one of those companies that sends them to Africa or recycles them.

My husband has major running shoe issues. The last place we went let him try them on the treadmill at home, and he returned them (they made his knees hurt).

Yay for the 10-miler!!! :) I bet that is a really fun race.

  14. Michelle says:

You’re making the right choice to NOT run in the Asics if they hurt your feet!!! It is SO not worth that kind of injury because it’s just so preventable. Running shoes are the single most important tool you use to run, so don’t save on those…but make sure to bargain hunt. hehehe I bought Asics for $40 US including shipping from a huge sale online and i’m soooo happy with them!

I would say, donate your shoes! Don’t feel bad about not using them. :)

  1. [...] of running… I got new shoes today! I mentioned before that my Asics were bothering me and I knew that I had to get new ones before my race (which is on [...]
