Life.

Sometimes life shakes you around with great force, pushes you off a cliff and makes you stand up again. Without going into details, this is exactly what happened this weekend. I felt broken and helpless but things turned around yesterday and life is good again.

Even though moments like these are really hard, they make us grow as persons. I am thankful for times like these because they make me appreciate even more how lucky I am.

Needless to say that there was no room for blogging, I hope you’ll forgive me. :)

On a much brighter note: I tried the whole “I feel bad so I’m allowed to eat ice cream” thing and even though I love ice cream it didn’t really feel that special. Or comforting. It was more like a "oh, that’s what other people do when they feel down”-moment. You know, carrots would have given me the same amount of satisfaction. ;)

There was food though! No bad mood can kill my appetite. I’m primitive ;) .

SNB13570

Sautéed veggies with 1 egg mixed in

SNB13571

Sweet potato with cinnamon

SNB13572

Bread with almond butter, banana slices and a tad bit of agave

SNB13573

Lärabar love

And then last night my boyfriend and I made some roasted veggies..

..and homemade whole wheat “Spätzli” with saffron cream sauce. I never make cream sauces though yesterday I felt like being a bit rebellious ;) .

You know, I don’t really care if there was a bit too much ice cream and beer involved this weekend. Sure it wasn’t the healthiest food but I was ok with it. It has also taught me that, in every possible situation, I’d rather have some veggies than anything else. ;)

Q: How do you handle depressing days? I always go from feeling that everything’s going to be fine to crying. But I generally think that it takes a lot to make me feel like there’s never going to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I will always know that things will get better someday (because they will!). However, a nice cry every once in a while doesn’t do any harm.

Ps. Did you watch the Oscars? Well I didn’t because they show them at an ungodly hour but I’m so happy that Christoph Waltz won the Best Supporting Actor award! I would have been super mad if he didn’t get it because his performance in “Inglourious Basterds” was fantastic. Extremely horrifying but fantastic.

Pps: My google reader is on 615. Guess who’s got some catching up to do?

  1. Aw, girl…my heart goes out to you. It sounds like you had a hard weekend :-(

I hope everything is okay, friend.

  2. coco says:

oh… sorry to hear that you had a bad moment but glad to know that it turned around later. I know these kind of feeling: one side you feel that is the worse moment in life and you feel effortless to rebound, but on the other hand you know that it’s going to get better soon. I’ve been feeling that often lately and as you said, each time it happens, it makes us grow as person.
I didn’t watch the oscar award but I did watch a lot of the winning movies. I’m also really happy that christoph won because his performance was just AMAZING! :D oh… I’m also really really happy that the argentinian movie won the best foreign film… i’m sooo proud!

  3. Sorry to hear that you had a rough time, hun… but I’m glad that you’re feeling better. I can totally relate to not getting comforted by traditional “comfort food”; I’m the same way. I guess we’re just a bunch of health freaks. No shame!

To handle depressing times, I usually try to take my mind off what’s bugging me. I’ll read, or write in a journal/blog. If that doesn’t work… I sleep it off :)

  4. Sorry about the turbulent weekend, I can relate. Great food pics, you can never go wrong with almond butter and bananas :-)

My answer for handing depressing times is to make list of everything I have to be thankful for. I actually didn’t watch the Oscars (gasp), we got busy watching The Incredibles on TV last night and checked the results online later.

  5. Ildie says:

Life spent without drama and crap means you’re not living it. Drama is unavoidable. However, all things pass with time.

When my life turns to POOP I cry, whine, complain (nonstop), vent, kick my feet, pout, drink wine, complain some more, reflect, understand and then eventually, I move on. We all have our patterns. Mine is pretty typical.

You’ll come out on top because you’re a great person. ;)

On a happier note, your eats this weekend look amazing! As always!

    THANKS FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!!!
    xoxoxoxo

I think its good to have those days and push through them knowing that they are temporary. It only makes us stronger, right? Head up, chin up, and move on. This week will be full of good people, good food, etc. Your veggies look heavenly and so does that P&B bread. Peanut butter and banana sandwiches can cure everything, haha!

615?!!?! i would cry .. or just erase them all and start over! lol. sorry about your sad weekend, but we all have them and i agree with you 100% that a good cry can REALLY help. If i am having a really down day, it ry to do something to make me feel better- a quick workout or whatever but if it doesn’t work i just kind of embrace it and know the next day will probably be better. your meals look amazzzing <3 and i've never tried that lara bar! haha love what u said about the ice cream thing..so funny! & i loved hte oscars, so glad Sandra Bullock won!

  8. Shelley says:

    did my comment not work?

  9. Shelley says:

urg that makes me mad.. oh well, i’ll say it again. I basically said- 615?! wow, i would for sur eerase them all and start over haha that is stressful! and i loveee all your eats- so delicious . love what you said about ice cream too- thats funny :) and as for depressing days, i try to do something to cheer me up (a quick workout or whatever) but if it doesnt work, a good cry does really help! not going to lie. i’m so glad Sandra bullock won best actress!!

  10. Christina says:

Aww I’m glad you’re feeling better now! I hate depressing days but have been having them more often lately since I’m stuck at a weird place in life. Crying tends to help make me feel better! Ice cream does not. For some reason I never have an appetite when I’m sad!

All your food looks amazing!! And as for the Oscars, I can’t believe Avatar didn’t win! But I was happy Sandra Bullock did :)

  11. Tamizn says:

  14. Karla says:

I totally understand! We seriously are bloggy twins, while I don’t know the extent of your situation, I was feeling bad yesterday and did a fair amount of crying and eating… It happens, but life goes on.
If you need a friend, I’m here!
Hope today has been a million times better!

  15. SPATZLI. GAH I miss Swiss food. Lucky duck. You get it every day. And you get Lindt. :)

  16. Good to have you back! Glad you are feeling better too! :)

Oh Spaetzli, love love love Spaetzli, that is Swiss comfort food at its best! And you can never go wrong with saffron…yumm

When I feel down, it usually helps to hear my husband say: “Christina, you have PMS!” Even if I don’t… haha I can just blame everything on that and I get extra special PMS treatment. ;) I can get “PMS” anytime of the month, I am special that way. haha I crawl into bed, get a massage, read cookbooks and everything already looks brighter. Also, talking about it always helps me, even if there is nothing “smart” that comes out of my mouth. It helps to just repeatedly say thinks like: “I just feel sad, you know. It’s just crappy, you know? *sniff* ”

PS: I WILL answer your email! I am sure you know how it is… haha :)

    xxx Julia (Taste of Living)

  19. I’m so glad you’re feeling better!! Those times are tough but a good cry is the best thing to do. If I’ve ever hit a rough patch sometimes I try not to cry and then finally do and I feel so much better. It’s like a release!

All of your eats look so good! You’re bananas look perfect in every picture!!

  20. Rosa says:
