Is The Quiche To Blame?
Such great comments on my last post! I’m really happy that you’re excited for my trip too
. I hope there are going to be a bunch of blogger meet-ups. On the other hand, I really hope that my friend won’t be annoyed or thinks it’s strange because let’s face it: Meeting someone you only know through the internet is kind of like a blind date. And weird. BUT FUN! I can’t wait!
Maybe we’ll set a date and you’ll see me waiting and then you’ll run away screaming because of my horrible black teeth. Or my missing eye.
Kidding.
But let’s get back to being serious. It might be strange for someone who’s not familiar with this crazy and wonderful blog world. We’re like nerdy boys who talk about videogames with their friends online. The only difference is that we talk about food.
Anyway. I just wanted to inform you that Swiss bloggers are slowly but surely taking over the food blog world. MUAHAHAHAHAHA. Yesterday the lovely Christina commented on my blog (hi there fellow Swiss pal!) and of course I had to check out her blog too. Well obviously, the layout is way too great to be true but there are also a bunch of amazing posts. You should all go and read her most recent one “Good Food vs. Bad Food”.
Watch out guys! The mountain people from the tiny European country are here to take over the woooooorld. (Can you hear the menace in my voice??)
Oh god. Wait one second. Do I see snowflakes? NOOOO! I thought it was getting spring already! Where did it go? Dear little snowflakes, you can party in the mountains but not down here!
Ok. Back to food.
Wednesdays usually bring running (or swimming) + dinner dates with my boyfriend. After a quick run around my neighbourhood, Silvio pulled out a recipe for a pear & potato quiche.
It basically consisted of pear, potato, cottage cheese, gruyere cheese, parsley, nutmeg, salt, pepper, garlic and onion. We also used a white organic pre-made dough.
After 30 minutes in the oven it looked like this:
I had some with a mixed salad that my sister made.
It was good but I woke up this morning with a HUGE tummy ache. I don’t know if it was because of the quiche but I don’t think that I will make it again soon.
But I really liked the sweet note of the pear. However, the crush/potato mix was a bit too much.
We had a good evening anyway. While the quiche was in the oven my boyfriend and I made some raw vegan chocolate chip cookie dough balls à la Averie. These are always too good to be true and my boyf is obsessed with them. I get so mad when he eats more dough than makes balls.
Yesterday was no different. It took all my strength to keep him away from snacking (I was –again- arguing like an old woman but this is serious stuff we’re talking about!
).
But just look at the balls:
Can you tell which ones he made??
We also made a second batch to fulfil our needs.
I love me some balls. (TWWS!)
By the way, have you ever thought that your oven was lame? Well, I can almost guarantee you that mine is 1048384 times worse:
Yes it doesn’t really close properly. What a waste of energy but we don’t know how it can get fixed (any ideas?).
Plus: it’s tiny.
But despite it’s size and obvious flaws, it produces some really good stuff
Q: Do you have any food intolerances or can’t mix certain foods? I once got a super swollen throat and lips because of pistachios. I’ve stayed away from them since then. I also get an upset tummy when I mix fruit + yogurt for example (took me a while to figure that out).
Oh wait, there’s no snow anymore. *K breathes out a sigh of relief*
Happy Thursday! Can’t believe that it’s already Friday so soon!

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your stomach ache
Mine is super finicky with food and I’d be at it for a while if I tried to list all the things that upset it. I’ve tried following food combining rules, but in the end it gets to be too much effort and I give up, so I put up with the minor discomfort. The only thing I have to make sure to stay away from are peanuts… deathly allergy there
Hope you’re having a great Thursday!
BOOOO to stomach aches! What is the deal lately?
Love those balls…I need to make another batch!
Thank you so much for mentioning me! That is so sweet of you!
Thanks for all the compliments *blush*.
Sorry, about your stomach ache. I can completely relate. I have major issues…runs in the family. I am still figuring out what exactly causes it. I have been saying, I should go to the doctor for about 5 years now… but I am always too busy (that’s what I tell myself at least). haha
I am currently gluten-free, but I still have some problems (others definitely improved though) . I often feel nauseous after eating eggs. And I cannot stomach a lot of fat, I get very very ill if I eat food that is too greasy. So that quiche, while it looks absolutely delicious, would have resulted in a bathroom party.
I also ate an eggplant dish once that I made and my mouth started hurting immediately. I drank some water and tried again. Same thing. But I seem to do fine with all the ingredients separately (tahini, eggplant, tomatoes, bell peppers, herbs etc.) I am just worried that there won’t be anything left for me to eat, I love food too much to cut out so many things (even one thing is so sad to me). I have just been “ignoring” it in a sense (except the greasy part…) and suffering the consequences. Part of me is probably avoiding the doctor, because I do not want to know that there is something I really should not eat (Celiac!!) or to really know what is causing it. I am probably going to make an appointment this month….I have to.
What do you think is bothering you?
lol your comment about the boyf and the balls, priceless! it’s so interesting how diff fods affect everyone differently! YES for meeting up, i hope your friend won’t think it’s weird (or that she’ll have gotten used to the idea once you finaly make it to SF lol) i can’t wait!
No allergies that I’m aware of, I guess I’m lucky. I can eat whatever the heck I want. YEAH!
Too bad that quiche made you sick. It looks AMAZING!
You also have the nicest balls in town. If you don’t mind my saying so. HAHAHA!
Have a happy Friday!
Those balls look so good. I should try them! Averie posts so many recipes I get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start!
Milk is no bueno for me!
I like that you make do with what you have! You make some amazing things with that tiny oven! Very admirable!!
Still dying to try the raw balls!! One day I’ll get around to making them
I’m so sorry about your stomach! Its the worst thing ever when your stomach isn’t happy
I’ve had so many stomach problems over the years and being gluten free seems to help ( it’s only been a couple months that I’ve tried this). I still have some problems though and I know that certain food combos dont agree with me.
Awww your oven is so cute! I have no idea what to do about the door though!
Your quiche looks so good. Sorry you have a tummy ache
those are the worst. Gingerale it? Feel better!
The quiche looks great. LOL, I have a similar toaster oven sitting in my pantry unused. I hope your tummy feels better soon! Great blog

“Meeting someone you only know through the internet is kind of like a blind date. And weird. BUT FUN! I can’t wait! “–
Girl I hear ya! I have met people IRL that I met online only, and it’s always interesting that first meetup, kinda like a date, for sure! haha!
Thanks for making and posting the balls. I love raw balls too…TWSS!
Serioulsy so happy that you guys have been making, enjoying and lovin’ em too! I hope you have a glorious weekend Sweetie!!
xoxo
Oh my gosh…that quiche is GORGEOUS! Seriously, girl! I’ve never seen a quiche so beautiful in my life!
I am an easy eater…I eat it all and everything can be together!
Durian and milk is a big no-no! But I don’t think you have to worry abt that. Same with century eggs and soda. URGH.
Heh. Welcome, Swiss bloggers! We bloggers seem to be mostly American, Canadian, and British. We need more diversity indeed!
Holy YUM – delicious recipe!

I can´t wait to try that quiche!
I just found your blog, and I´m loving it, so far
Oh, and by the way – I love bananas, too. Haha!
Have an amazing Sunday, girl!
Brazilian XOXO´s,
Gabriela
It will be so much fun-Can’t wait to hear about your meet ups. What a cool boyfriend to come up with that recipe AND help make the balls. I have made those ones. They are crazy good! I try to only eat fruit on and empty stomach and by itself for sure. Figuring out food intolerance is tricky.
Your oven isn’t worse than mine- Our big oven crapped out last fall, so I’m cooking in a oven just like yours- other than the size limitations it produces some good stuff. I’m so happy to find another countertop cook!
Awww sorry to hear about your tummy ache. That’s unfortunate that it might be from the quiche because it looks like it was really tasty!
I need to get at it with making those cookie dough balls. Averie always has such good recipes but I always forget to buy dates when I get to the store!
