Thrive

Glad to hear that you liked the Japan recap.

I’m all sore of yesterday’s yoga class which is weird because it wasn’t really that tough (or at least that’s what I thought ;) ). So today me and Silvio only took a leisurely walk because the weather is currently so nice and spring-like :) .

Before I headed to his place I had some time to whip up a few goodies though.

I’ve had “Thrive” for ages but never made anything out of the recipes. You know how that goes, you mark all the great recipes and want to try them “as soon as possible” but then life (and other recipes you “have to try as soon as possible”) get in the way and you still haven’t made anything after months.

Today marked a new day though and I couldn’t wait to try some of the recipes. Particularly the buckwheat pancakes sounded superbe.

SNB13510

Apparently the recipe yields for 2 large servings. And yes, large it was. BUT it was pretty easy to eat it all :) .

It was so good with some almond butter and agave.

After some groceries shopping I decided to give the chocolate blueberry energy bars a try.

SNB13517

I had no fresh blueberries or cooked buckwheat which might have been the reason why I only got 8 bars instead of 12.

SNB13516

They were almost purple though ;) .

I thought that they were rather “interesting” tasting (not bad though!) but it was a bit of a surprise when my boyfriend said that he liked them. :)

The thrive party was ended by a green smoothie for lunch. However, I had no kale so I used spinach.

I can’t wait to try the crackers now (though they might have to wait until tonight because we’re currently watching “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”). :)

Does it ever happen to you that you get a cook book but then end up not making anything out of it for quite a while?

I hope you’re all enjoying your Saturday. We’re having a super relaxing day, just what the doctor ordered. :)

I buy tons of cookbooks and take forever to make something from them! I have so many recipes bookmarked that I want to make that I feel like I need to make!
Your energy bars look tasty though! As do the pancakes!! Yum!

  2. Stef says:

um basically all of my cookbooks fall into the category of sitting on my shelf WAITING to be cracked open and tried out. the problem is i get tooe xcited, buy too many books/bookmark too many recipes, then get overwhelmed and forget about it! but i’m trying to make at least one new recipe a week, let’s see how that goes lol. yum your pancakes = phenomenal!

  3. Yum!! Looks like a delicious way to start the morning!

    Yummy looking cakes. ;)

I think I buy cookbook with good intentions and then drool over the pictures and do nothing with them. I’m actually currently working on changing that. Wish me luck. I have Tosca Reno’s new book and I plan to tackle that beast soon!

    Have a great Saturday!

  6. I actually don’t buy many cookbooks; I usually go online to look for recipes I want to make. That being said, I end up collecting a lot and never finding the time/desire to make them. Maybe it’s because I have a hard time following recipes as I like making up my own? I’m not sure… Your pancakes look super delicious though. I’ve been wanting to make crepes forever now, so I think I have to get around to that soon.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  7. story of my life…more books/recipes than time! just posted bout this today.
i have both the Thrive’s, and have never made anything formally out of them….the b’wheat pancakes you may have just inspired me!
i make my own energy bars, not his recipe though that you’ve prob seen me blog about!

oh and i replied to you yesterday on my blog, had no idea you lived in Switz. Now it all makes sense bout the snowshoeing!

  10. Caroline says:

I am in love with those mini pancakes! I have a real problem actually using my cookbooks to cook, I have a tendency to read them and then never use them! What’s up with that?! Glad I am not the only one but more so I am glad to see that you are getting use out of this awesome looking cookbook!

I also have Thrive and have not tried ONE recipe! But most have “strange” ingredients that I don’t have. Those bars look like something I would like. I should pick a recipe and give it a shot!

  1. [...] I ended up giving my Thrive book a break and quickly made a casserole of sorts and some spinach with [...]

  2. [...] There are so many recipes that call for fish sauce and I’ll make some vegetarian variations of these recipes. I seriously miss ramen but to be honest: I could have made my own version ages ago! I think that also falls into the “I should try this and that recipe but don’t have enough time"-category. [...]
