My Little Fried Brain

Oh mother what a day.. I forgot how tiring exams were! By the time I was done it felt like my brain has been fried and my head was pounding like crazy. However, I think that all in all it went pretty well. Tina mentioned “que sera, sera” and that’s exactly how I felt.
First we had to start with the reading and I opened the question papers and saw that the title of the first part was “Unhealthy food”. I almost laughed out loud and felt like it was totally meant to be “my” exam. Then I also had to write something about the climate change in Switzerland and I was having a blast. Ok maybe when I get the results (March!!!) I won’t be so happy anymore but I’m having a good feeling anyway.

The exam went from 8:15am – 3pm with a 1hr lunch break. So I stumbled out of bed really early (remember, the thought of being late to an exam freaks me out) and tried to become a decent human being. Breakfast had to be a super pick-me-up to get me motivated for the day..

yogurt, muesli, banana, apple + huge green mug (which I didn’t eat – don’t worry ;) )

And then I prepared lunch. I didn’t really know if there was any place where we could get some lunch and I wasn’t in the mood for some heavy stuff that made me feel awful for the rest of the exam.

Two sandwiches made of mini ww toast, spinach, egg, cucumber, ketchup and mustard.

Plus an apple (and later a banana as well – there’s no shame in being on a banana and apple trip ;) ).

All packed up.

By the way can you tell that they wanted us to be super quiet? ;)

After the exam I went back home and went swimming with Silvio! It’s been ages since I’ve last been in a pool and it was fabulous. I have some kind of love/hate relationship. Sometimes it’s so refreshing and sometimes I just hate walking around in my bikini, the cold water, getting wet (haha), all those people…. You get the idea. But ever since Kat wrote about swimming, I couldn’t wait to throw myself into a pool (or something like that ;) ). We swam for 40 minutes and then called it a day.

We went back to his place and went groceries shopping. It’s always quite amusing when we go groceries shopping together because he would (for example) go and get the “normal” tomatoes and I would exchange them with organic ones. Also, he buys some cheap meat and I’d babble on about poor quality of meat and animal rights and and and… Trust me, I sometimes really don’t know why he’s dating me ;) .

Anyway, we got back home and made fajitas. I only have a pre-wrapping photo though but I’m pretty sure you all know what fajitas are.

To be honest: I didn’t want to be the silly photographer in front of his roommate. I did it once and he looked at me like I was insane. I have no problems with taking pictures of food (even though it is silly sometimes) but I honestly only want my peace and quiet and don’t want to explain my reasons for blogging about food to people who clearly won’t understand it. (Not that I don’t like him but some people think you’re out of your mind when you take pictures of your meals).

Today I’m back in the old office groove. 1 1/2 days until the weekend, hooray!! I’ve got some fun German-French translation to do today which is quite relaxing compared to yesterday’s monster exam :)

Question 1: (If you are a food blogger) Do you sometimes feel strange about taking photos of what you’ve eaten?
I only feel weird when I’m with people who don’t know about the blog.. For example my colleagues.. I simply don’t take any photos when I’m with then because I still want some “privacy” (is that even possible when you’re posting your food on the INTERNET where everyone can read it? Maybe I’m just too oblivious of that fact – or simply stupid ;) )

Question 2: (If you are a food blog reader) Have you ever felt weird about reading what other people eat?
Me? Never. This community is so much fun and inspiring, I’d never give up reading those blogs. After all these are all real people (ok, celebrities are real people as well but come on…) who struggle with the same issues like I do. This community has helped me more than I can probably imagine.. (Does this sound a bit religious now?? Hope not ;) )

Glad your exams went well!! I hope you read about my Copenhagen post to get you pumped for this question :P
Reading about what other people eat isn’t weird at all. Sometimes, I feel silly taking pictures of what I eat just because I think, do people really care?

  2. Karin says:

Haha what a coincidence! No I haven’t read your post yesterday (in fact, I read it 10 minutes ago). Too bad :) but I thought of Copenhagen as well.

  3. Kirsty says:

yay glad your exam went well and the questions sounded perfect for you :)
I know what you mean… I always take photos of food…most my holiday pics are of food..hahaha… I feel strange at times…but hey, you are alowed to take pics of what you want!!!xx

Glad to hear your exam went well, or at least you felt good about it! That’s a good sign in my book. Delicious looking eats as always, I love the look of that Egg sandwich! As far as your questions I used to be a total stalker (before I had the blog). I never commented either because I didn’t really feel like putting myself out there. I DID feel weird about reading what other people were eating at that point. Now that I have my own blog I love being a part of this community and never feel weird. Taking pictures is tricky when people don’t know about the blog but I am happy to say that most people in my life, probably 90 percent do know and think it’s cool!

  5. Kat says:

I’m so glad you went swimming and enjoyed it! And thanks for the shout out :) . You have inspired me to go to the pool tomorrow if I can get my cold booty out of bed. I feel the same way about the blog/ taking pictures and my coworkers- I dont really want them reading it. But strangers and blog friends are fine! I have gotten more comfortable taking pictures, especially in restaurants.

Congrats on completing the exam- I am crossing my fingers for you!
