I’m Singing In The Snow

Posted in Dinner, Family, Lunch, Recipes on November 30th, 2009 by Karin – 4 Comments

The  nasty rain just turned into snow, hooray! I love snow and it was also about time that we got some.. I’m now really looking forward to snowboarding (best thing ever in winter).

SNB12449

Yesterday was fantastic and I whipped up some extremely delicious and simple food.

SNB12434

SNB12437

But first let’s go back to Saturday. Post-work I rushed to Silvio’s place for dinner. We whipped up some very basic stuff – potatoes, spinach, quorn cutlet (me), cordon bleu (him) and salad.

Oh, and garlic bread. We have a thing for garlic bread.

SNB12420

SNB12421

SNB12422

SNB12423

Buttaaaaah!!

Sunday

I had to skip brunch at Silvio’s parents place due to fun stuff like laundry and cleaning the apartment (gaaaah..) On the way back home I picked up some grapefruit juice.

SNB12425

I wasn’t hungry at all and so I worked out on the stepper (such a killer machine :) ) while watching an episode of 24.

SNB12426

…followed by some lovely yoga.

Afterwards I did the laundry + dishes and mopped the floor. I then felt like I needed some food in me after all. It’s so strange not to have any appetite at all, that rarely happens to me but if it does then it’s only on weekends or when I’m ill. Weekend eats are always rather weird..

Killer-sandwich

SNB12430

SNB12432

Lettuce, tomato, sprouts, goat cheese, ketchup and mustard. Yes it was as good as it looked.

Then I read some blogs and decided to try making Averie’s Raw Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls. Yes tried because my processor absolutely sucks. It takes me forever to make almond butter (which is why I rarely make it from scratch) and so I wasn’t sure if it was up to some vegan goodies. However, I was so wrong to doubt my little food processor.

MY. GOD. They were even better than I imagined! And they only took me 5 minutes to make. And they taste like cookie dough. And they’re basically heaven on earth. And and and and.. I wish I took some to work. :)

SNB12438

SNB12439

I highly encourage you all to make a batch as well! And if some of my real-life friends ( :) ) read this: Let me know if you want some and I’ll happily make some for you as well.

Anyway, I had some stroke of creativity before I made these raw goodies and only needed two ingredients for this little masterpiece.

Soy sauce
Almonds

Simple? Oh yes indeed.

First I drizzled some almonds with soy sauce (just enough to cover everything)

SNB12427

Then I put them into the oven for 10 minutes on 100°C (About 210°F?!?)

SNB12429

I will definitely make a huge batch again because they’re such a yummy snack! (Again, I was surprised at how good they tasted!) They also require almost no active time which is an other plus.

Around 2pm I had to get ready and met up with my mum at the cinema for an other round of New Moon. Fabulous. :)

Healthy cinema snackeroo:

SNB12428

I then went back home with mum and helped her preparing dinner. I made myself some stuffed peppers because everyone else is on the meat-wagon.

SNB12442

Filled with mozzarella, parsley, sundried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, S+P.

SNB12440

I love stuffed veggies!

My dad made his super famous cèpe mushroom risotto. It’s seriously one of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted and anyone who ever gets to try this is a lucky person. My parents go searching for mushrooms in the woods which is fantastic (even though I hated it as a child – it was boring – but I now really appreciate it..  well at least the results of that hard work, lol).

SNB12443

He takes his job super seriously (“Is there any decent risotto rice in the house?”)

SNB12444

My plate:

SNB12445

(It’s impossible to only eat a small serving of the risotto – I tried it. And failed.)

and some amazing okra (Yes! Okra!), broccoli, garlic sticks + cherry tomatoes salad:

SNB12446

Whew, what a post. Hope you didn’t get tired ;) .

Yesterday was lovely but a 1-day weekend is way too short. It was so hard to get up this morning! Tonight’s going to be great though. I’ll go and see The Sounds! Can’t wait!

I hope you’ll have a great last day of November!

Saturday At Work, Oh Isn’t That Fun?

Posted in Breakfast, Dinner, Eating Out, Films, Lunch, Recipes on November 28th, 2009 by Karin – 5 Comments

Bonjour friends, I hope you liked yesterday’s post :) . But let’s get back to food and the good stuff in life.

Thursday

There’s this fantastic vegetarian buffet-style restaurant in the train station of Berne called tibits. It’s actually by the owners of Hiltl (remember?). Their food is amazing and their buffet offers a great variety of dishes. However, for lunch on Thursday I decided to get the olive vegetables sandwich which was scrumptious.

SNB12393

SNB12395

Mmmm! All that arugula!

Thursday is actually our squash-day but two of my friends were busy with school stuff and I persuaded my friend Karin (yes an other Karin) to skip squash and have dinner instead. I didn’t really feel that great and wasn’t sure if I could spend 45 minutes running around in a room like an idiot ;) . We decided to go to an Italian restaurant where I continued my carb-party.

SNB12398

(Hey It was thanksgiving after all so I had to indulge a little ;) ).

The picture really doesn’t do it justice. It was enormous and so tasty! I didn’t eat it all though. Obviously..

I truly have the best friends ever. Honestly, I have no idea how I deserve them! Anyway, Karin surprised me with this:

SNB12397

Gaaaah! She knows me so well! Thank you so much my dear Schlanklori! ;)

I was almost dancing with joy! (Yes I know, it’s “only” a measuring cup but it made me so happy – food lovers understand.. :) ).

Friday

For breakfast I decided to try the infamous PB&J with a twist of course. I used almond butter and blueberry jam. Why haven’t I tried that before?? It is so good!

I had it with some dried apricots, an orange and a camera-shy boiled egg

SNB12400

(insert enormous salad for lunch here)

Dinner was.. interesting. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted but it was good nevertheless.

Cauliflower zucchini casserole!

I first sautéed a head of cauliflower, one zucchini, 1/2 onion and one carrot in a little bit of olive oil for about 10 minutes

SNB12402

In the meantime I mixed 1/4 cup soy milk, one egg, half a ton nutmeg, salt and pepper.

SNB12404

I used a tiny casserole form because I was eating by myself

SNB12403

I transferred some veggies into the casserole form and poured the egg mixture over it.

Then I put it in the oven for about 20 minutes on 180°C (350°F)

Afterwards I topped everything with a little bit of parmesan and goat cheese

SNB12405

..And baked it for an other 10 minutes.

SNB12408

SNB12409

It was really good but too dry! I should steam the vegetables instead next time.

I then had some vegan chocolate mousse (had it in the freezer and thawed it). I love that hint of avocado, it goes really well with the cacao powder.

SNB12414

(Sorry, not the prettiest picture ever ;) )

Saturday (As known as: Today)

I bounced out of bed, did yoga and through my lame morning routine and made a green monster

SNB12416

(3 cups steamed kale, 2 tbsp dried goji berries, 1 tbsp almond butter, 1 cup soy milk, ice, 1 banana, squirt of agave)

I put it away after one sip because it was too thick and warm! So I mixed everything again with more ice and water and put it in a thermos cup. I will have it for lunch along with the leftover veggies from yesterday’s dinner.

Instead I had an orange, bread with vegan margarine & honey plus some goat cheese. Oh and an other camera-shy hardboiled egg.

SNB12417

And yep, I’m at work now but honestly don’t really have much to do. So I’ll probably spend the day doing stuff that has been a bit neglected (cleaning my desk, sorting files, books, etc…). Fun! (Or not..)

It’s almost embarrassing to say but I’ll go and see New Moon (again!) tomorrow with my mum. She called me on Thursday and said that if I’ll go and see New Moon again, I’d have to tell her when. Because she’s super flexible. And I half joked “what about Sunday?” and her response was “Perfect! I read that there’s a screening at 3pm!”. Haha. She planned it all (but obviously would deny it). She then asked me if Selina comes as well and I declined. Her answer was “Oh well, she can come with us when we’ll go and see it the 3rd time. Or the 4th. Or the 5th.”. :) Love her.

I hope you’re all having a relaxing Saturday!

Staying Healthy While Travelling Long Distances

Posted in Travelling on November 27th, 2009 by Karin – 7 Comments

My upcoming trip to Japan has made me think of how to stay healthy while travelling long distances – in this case on airplanes. Most of you are probably familiar with the bad air in planes and the less than stellar food (however, that depends on which Airline you chose and which class you’re in) but think that you can’t do anything about it. Well no, you can’t. But you can make a trip as healthy as possible with a few little tricks.

My experience with long distance flights are a bit limited. I only know the Zurich-Osaka route but have often experienced how it’s like to be in a plane for more than 10 hours at a time. And to be honest.. I’ve had quite a history with health + airplanes.

When I was a kid I always had to throw up during flights. I felt awful and hated flying. I felt better as I got older – no more nausea, so much more fun with watching films that I could chose. Nevertheless, I still didn’t feel at top of my game. To be quite frank: I also never took care of my health. To me a flight consisted of drinking very little water, a funny feeling in the legs, bad air and food that got a bit better in the past few years. However, I ate what was given to me and drank the little water I had. I didn’t really think that you could actually help these things and feel better after a flight (even with the major jet-lag).

So this is what I’m going to do

From now until we leave for Japan:

  • Cut The Crap challenge (which should be paid more attention to)
  • More veggies and fruit (especially greens)
  • Staying healthy :)

On the day we leave:

  • Drink at least 1L water before we board the plane (not all at once of course)
  • Pack fruits, nuts and bars for the journey (I’m planning on taking apples, nuts, dried fruits and homemade bars with me)
  • Pack wheatgrass (you can also pack any other supplement that you have but I’m only taking wheatgrass…)

At the airport:

  • Buy one or two bottles of water after they check your hand luggage. I know it’s pricey but so worth it! Being thirsty is not healthy and always asking for water is annoying, especially when they bring you these tiny 1dl bottles.
  • Shop in the duty-free area (good for the soul ;) )

On the airplane:

  • Drink. Lots. Of. Water. (Probably around 23948234 litres so that I have to go to the bathroom all the time and disturb my fellow flight-buddies)
  • Ditch the crap they serve you. (If something is not tasty or good for you then I’ll just leave it. I have snacks with me after all :) )
  • Stretching

Also: Bring a blanket, pillow, moisturizer, lip balm, …whatever you need to make you feel comfortable. Wearing comfy clothes is also always a plus. :)

I really hope that will help and prevent me from feeling too groggy after the flights. I also hope that these tips will help you on your next flights!

Also: I am a huge fan of Miranda Kerr. Obviously she’s absolutely gorgeous but is also a health-nut, loves organic food and does yoga. (So basically she’s like me. But prettier. And more strict. And much cooler.) ;)
Anyway, I just found an interview where she also talks about staying healthy on airplanes:

You travel, huh. Like, a lot. How do you alight from a plane then look glowy and Miranda Kerr-y later that night or the next morning? I look rank.

“I drink noni juice and lots of water before, during and after the flight, and I try to do some yoga on the plane if I can. I’ll also meditate and listen to Deepak Chopra on my iPod and just focus on my breath… all of this rejuvenates me.”

I think it’s pretty funny that she mentions Deepak Chopra because I just put some stuff of his on my iPod last night – along with approximately 2985738293 yoga and meditation podcasts.

Q1: What are your tips for long distance flights? (Let’s hear them! I’m really curious of what you think!)
Q2: Any recommendations for podcasts? (I’m still trying to find more good ones – don’t care what they’re about)

Okras to the People!

Posted in Eating Out, Family, Films on November 26th, 2009 by Karin – 2 Comments

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends!

I hope you’ll have a fabulous time.

Back to yesterday..

Indian food is so unbelievably good, I could definitely live on it.

We kicked off last night’s dinner with some “drinks”. I had a martini (which looks like water on that picture..)

SNB12385

We had to celebrate New Moon after all (or something like that) ;) .

For dinner I chose okra curry. I am a huge fan of okras but can’t seem to find them around here! But they must be out there somewhere..

SNB12387

They served it with a side of rice and a little dal.

SNB12386

I ate all of the dal and okras and 1/2 of the rice. Plus some bites of my family’s curries. So so so so good! (So so so so stuffed..)

Oh and I also had a piece of garlic naan.

SNB12389

And an Indian beer which was really good.

SNB12390

What a fabulous dinner! (Thanks mom and dad!)

SNB12388

Afterwards we went next door (literally) to see New Moon.

SNB12391

You know.. quite seriously… I honestly didn’t expect it to be so good! The film is so much better than Twilight (which is probably mostly due to the bigger budget and the new director). Some shots were absolutely fantastic and the script was so much better! The conversations were just flowing and not as awkward as in Twilight. And don’t get me started on the make-up.. (especially those eyes!! Such an improvement in the contact lenses department!).

It was overall a great film and very well adapted. I also thought that it was so amusing to be in a cinema with tons of women. All that whistling and screaming cracked me up. Though I guess that people in Switzerland aren’t really as obsessed with Twilight (what I’m really glad for) as America is. (I also bet that most women were also constantly reminding themselves that Taylor Lautner is only 17.. ;) ).

Can’t wait to see it again! :)

The next post will be about how to stay healthy while travelling long distances.

Stay tuned and keep on dancing!

Lions & Lambs + French Toast

Posted in Breakfast, Films on November 25th, 2009 by Karin – 6 Comments

Hi. How are you?
I am so damn excited that I’ll see New Moon tonight!!!!! good.

This morning I skipped out of bed (or something like that) and made a fantastic breakfast.

SNB12384

SNB12383

French Toast!

I can’t believe that I haven’t had it in forever as I LOVELOVELOVE french toast! We had some stale bread which I used – it turned out perfectly. I drizzled it all with maple syrup and had banana and apple on the side (as if you couldn’t tell…).

After work I’ll get my eyes tested again and then meet up with my family for an Indian feast! We’ll have dinner at a new (to me) Indian restaurant and I’m really looking forward to it. Indian food is my favourite – all those spices and flavours! Amazing…

Afterwards we’ll go and see New Moon. (!!!!!)

You know, I really tried to be super cool about everyone’s New Moon posts but I honestly thought that it’s absolutely unfair that we had to wait FIVE MORE DAYS! ;) Ok maybe it’s not that dramatic but I was still a bit annoyed (just a teeny tiny little bit – in the back of my head.. yeah..). Oh well, it will be 9pm soon enough. :)

All the Americans are probably too busy looking forward to Thanksgiving but I still work until Friday and continue to type my little heart away. You know, in case someone reads this blog anyway ;) .

Have you seen New Moon or aren’t you interested in Twilight at all?
Twilight is my little guilty.pleasure. It’s so cheesy and unrealistic and I have a weak spot for all things cheesy and unrealistic.

English + Japanese

Posted in Travelling, Yoga on November 24th, 2009 by Karin – 7 Comments

I’ve got some very exciting news but more about that later.

My English course ended last night (well it actually ends next week but I’ll be at the The Sounds concert then. Shh!) and it was actually kind of sad because I really enjoyed class. In case you didn’t know: I’m currently studying for the Cambridge Advanced English exam (which will be on 9th Dec). But I will most definitely also enjoy my new freedom. Classes from 8pm-10pm weren’t always fun. However, my brain will probably turn into a raisin if I don’t study anything and I really hope that I can take up Swedish next January. We’ll see :) . (I love languages!)

Pre-English I had a lovely dinner.

SNB12372

SNB12373

WW Spaghetti + Tomato + Pesto + Mozzarella

I actually wanted to mix in some kale as well but there were some funny white spots on it so I threw it away. I usually don’t throw away food that easily but I’m not very comfortable with eating something that has weird white points (+that look like tiny eggs or something). Maybe it’s just my paranoia. So dinner was sadly very veggie-less.

After class I headed home and did 20 minutes of Lunar Flow yoga. There was too little yoga in my life last week. I especially love this short class because it really helps me to rewind and relax. I do it quite often actually..

By the way this is my glamorous yoga studio. My room is extremely small but I don’t care. It’s enough space for yoga if you shove everything out of the way.

SNB12375 SNB12377

Front + Back.

With a side of candlelight.

SNB12374

This morning I woke up to an other yoga session. It’s been so hard to wake up early lately so I was quite proud of myself that I managed to roll out of bed at 5:45am. I did 1hr of “Yoga for Weight Loss” (again from yogadownload.com). No, I don’t want to lose weight but that 1hr class was for free when it was new on the page (maybe that was a mistake but I’m happy nevertheless). I actually really like it because it’s hard without being too challenging and you work up a nice sweat. Afterwards I felt like jelly and was starving.

Almond butter with a side of oats was needed.

SNB12378

1/3 C oats, 1 C water, 1 banana // topped with 1tbsp flax seeds, 1tbsp hemp seeds, 1tbsp AB.

(Insert work)

Lunch was rabbit food.

SNB12382

SNB12380

(I’ve been eating my weight in carrots and hummus lately..)

To the exciting news

I’m going to Japan! Well the reason for our trip is very sad but I’m looking forward to see my grandma and spend some time at her place.

Of course I still miss my grandpa even though we weren’t extremely close but I really want to have a positive outlook on everything. I can’t think about “what if..” and “oh I wish I said this to him the last time I saw him..” because it’s simply impossible to turn back the time. I strongly believe that everything’s the way it is for a reason (even if it’s sometimes not right). Being sad won’t help anyone and I will continue to enjoy life and focus on the good stuff. Life is too precious to be wasted.

My wise words aside… I’m actually leaving on the 30th December and will return on 8th January.

I don’t know what to do blog-wise. I wish I could update daily but my grandma has no internet and I don’t know if I could get some in those hills.. (My grandma lives far far away from everything).

I don’t want this blog to be dead for more than a week so let me know what you’d like to read! I was thinking of a daily Japan special (if anybody would care about it..) and/or guest posts.

Question of the day: Do you speak any foreign languages? If yes: Which one/s? If yes/no: Which language would you like to be able to speak? (ok that was more than one question..)
Well, I grew up with Swiss-German and Japanese so they’re both ok for me. I also speak English and French fluently. Plus I could probably order something in a Restaurant in Spain as well. Now I only have to learn Swedish because it’s probably the funniest language on earth.

A Sleeping Blog And Further Cheesefests

Posted in Family, Running on November 23rd, 2009 by Karin – 3 Comments

Firstly: Thanks for your comments and e-mails. The loss of a beloved one is always hard but we’re ok. He had a happy life and that’s all that matters.

Secondly: My blog was down for a few hours. I first noticed it when I wanted to update last night – it was probably a problem with bluehost but obviously seems to be solved now. I was kind of starting to get panicked but then realized that some other blogs were down too..That relaxed me a little bit ;) .

Thirdly: I finally installed Windows Live Writer! No idea why it took me so long but it’s so much easier to write posts through that tool. Better late than never, right? :)

Fourthly: Work on Saturday was ok and uneventful. I was looking forward to dinner the entire time. It was a good one.

SNB12327

Can you guess what we had?

SNB12309

Yep, RACLETTE!

Every Swiss household digs raclette and fondue in colder seasons and so do we. I actually prefer raclette to fondue – I don’t like the cheese to be too melty/runny (can you say runny cheese?? Anyway, you know what I mean..).

SNB12311

Look at that gooey mess!

SNB12312

SNB12313

+ Some healthy greens for balance

SNB12314

SNB12315

As you know me.. I was all over the bacon!

SNB12316

Haha, who am I kidding?

SNB12317

We also had plenty of wine. Lots and lots and lots of it.

SNB12318  SNB12319

I was super tired by 11pm and hit the hay. Grandma’s got to sleep.

I have no idea how but we slept until noon on Sunday! Ah what a waste..

We got up and gobbled down some muesli and bread. Keeping up the Swiss traditions, you know. ;)

SNB12360

I then quickly went home and collected my running gear. I haven’t told you this but I haven’t run in 2 WEEKS!!! My knee has been acting up like hell during the runs after a couple of miles lately and I’ve been in a lot of pain. I don’t know why it started hurting because I’ve been running painless for years and I don’t run as often as I used to. Also: I never feel any pain when I practise other sports (like squash). Anyway, so yesterday I decided to go power walking with Silvio. Yes, power walking. However, we ran to the forest first because power walking looks silly in public to warm up. As soon as we reached the forest we started walking. And it was. Interesting. *cough cough”.

My shins started acting up and I wanted to run so badly! I started complaining and we bickered like old women. Oh love is magical, isn’t it?

I gave in and ran. And was happy. And then we walked a little bit. And ran a little. And walked. And got back home after ca. 7km. My knee didn’t hurt. I did a happy dance. Almost. (My knee hurt a little bit after an hour or so…). I know that I really need some new running shoes and I hope suspect that they’re causing the pain. So my plan is to take it easy until I get new running shoes. If everything’s fine with new shoes I’ll be the happiest person alive. If not.. Well.. Then we’ll see.

(Any tips from running-gurus?)

My running outfit was extremely seksiiii today:

SNB12363

Told you so.

The scarf is Silvio’s but I stole it for the run because I thought it would be colder than it actually was. + Yes that’s a cotton t-shirt and sweatshirt. Poor runner outfit, I know. At least my pants were Nike’s.

So is my water bottle. It’s glamorous.

SNB12365

By the time we got home and showered it was already 4pm. I quickly rushed home and burned some Muse and Mando Diao CDs for my parents and took the train to Home No. 2 (the parent’s casa) where I had an amazing dinner:

SNB12369

Oh no wait, that’s the wrong one…

SNB12368

Yep that’s more like it.

tofu / pepper / zucchini / onion party with sauerkraut and potatoes.

Glorious!

I also had some ice cream… which I split with Selina and got the other half of her cappuccino ice cream.

SNB12370

In true family tradition we then drank some Rooibos tea and watched a film together. Slumdog Millionaire to be precise. Love.

SNB12371

Whew. What a post. Thanks for reading. If not: I won’t mind either ;) .

I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was good after that awful Friday. I needed some quality time with my family + boyfriend and that’s exactly what I got.

Life is good.

Good Days and Bad Days

Yesterday was a bad day

I’m sorry to start the post with apologises but it’s not a much happier post than yesterday’s. I was in the middle of the preparations for the event when my mum phoned me and told me that my grandpa from Japan passed away. I couldn’t help but cry like a baby (not so cool in front of my boss and colleague). After a while I calmed down a bit, finished work and could go home earlier. I went straight to my parent’s place aka home no. 2 to hug my mum. She’s an incredibly strong woman and told me that it’s ok that he passed away. In some ways she’s right – his left side of his body was paralyzed due to a stroke and his health wasn’t the best but it still took me by surprise.

Being with my parents was wonderful and helpful. I’m happy now – happy about the fact that I could call this man, who was one of a kind, my grandpa. It makes me laugh when I think of him – his hobby was hunting (yeeah.. I know..) and he even drank sake while driving the car. He also hated my dad for 20 years and wasn’t comfortable anywhere but home. But he was also an honest and kind person. The last time I saw him he constantly mentioned how beautiful my scarf was. I then asked him if he wanted it and he said yes and smiled like a child on Christmas eve. It almost made me cry because I was so happy that there was something so little that could make him glow with joy like that. He shook his head in disbelief and said that this was amazing and that he’d always think of me when he wears that scarf.

But he won’t wear it anymore. And I’m worried about my grandma. She’s taken care of him for all these years and lives by herself now so far away from everything. My mum has to go to Japan at the end of December / beginning of January and I really want to go with her.

Everything is well today though. We’ve invited my parents for a cheesefest dinner and I’m really looking forward to it.

Life is so short and there’s not enough time to hug your loved ones and spend some time with them. However, death is part of our life and everyone experiences the feeling of loss sooner or later. This is how it’s meant to be . I bet my grandpa is happily drinking sake in an other world right now :) .

I miss you Ojiichan.

Tomorrow will be back to normal blogging, I swear. Life is good.

Take care and don’t forget to squeeze your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/sister/brother/daughter/son/mum/dad/grandpa/grandma/cousin/aunt/uncle/dog/bird/neighbour/cat&veggies ;)

Not My Day

Posted in Uncategorized on November 20th, 2009 by Karin – 3 Comments

I have to warn you my friends, today just isn’t my day. But in the end I’m just human, right? I can’t be chipper and happy all the time.

But I don’t want to scare you off either, I’m still in good spirits. Let me explain:

Yesterday night I talked to Silvio on the phone and said “Oh well and you know, I have to work until 9pm tomorrow…” and then there’s silence on the other end of the line. It turns out that he got us tickets for a play to surprise me. I kind of recall that he once told me to reserve the date but I thought it would be next week! Being the typical chick that I am I then burst into tears because A) I couldn’t believe that he did something so cute (not because he’s never done anything like that before but because he did it for.. me!) and B) I hate hurting people that I love (even though it’s not my fault..) I’m often a really insecure person and it always blows me away when people do such nice things for me.

Anyway, I have to work until 9pm and there’s nothing I can do about it. I’m currently taking a break and blog my little heart away because I need some sanity ;) .

My very plain and boring breakfast was also the only good food I have eaten so far..

SNB12265

Lunch was worse though. Some bread (??) with mushroom cream sauce topped with melted cheese. And a salad as well. I could have chosen only salad too (you get three choices at that café: Veggie, Fish or only Salad) but I wanted something with crazy staying power because I didn’t really bring dinner (an other no-go, I know but I won’t have time to eat anything anyway!). I’m having a tummy ache now.

I’m really sorry, I really don’t want to be a downer but I just wanted to get this off my chest. My job is great and I really wouldn’t mind working at the vernissage if it were on any other day. I imagine you’d feel the same way ;) (or at least I hope so)..

However, I decided to be all snackfacey and show you today’s outfit. This (or something like this ;) ) is what I wear for more posh events. I’m not the biggest fan of suits and like to wear something that is “me” even for a fancy pants event.

Strike a pose baby.

I especially love the glittery detail of the top even though it’s a pain in the a… to wash it

I’ll be glad when today’s workday is over. I have plans to meet up with Christine which shall be great fun. Tomorrow I have to work again (I normally don’t work overtime that often I swear.. It’s just a crazy season) but “only” from 11am – 6pm. We invited my parents for dinner and I’m really looking forward to it.

Anyway, I hope you’ll have a great Friday! One can already smell the weekend ;) .

I promise you all that the next post will be back to normal again (as in: Weird happy posts about random food). Thanks for reading my rant :) .

Orange Love

Good evening friends!

SNB12257

Ah what a concert! What a band! Words can not describe how fabulous that concert was but I’ll spare you all the Muse talk because I guess you all are quite fed up by now. ;)

The other day I was thinking about why on earth I’m writing this blog. And to be honest: I still have no answer.
All I know is that it makes me happy to write about great food and if that cheers someone else up: even better! Oh well, I will let you know when I get any wiser.

Until then I take my blogging job absolutely seriously and have fun with oranges:

Yes I take self portraits with oranges.
No that isn’t embarrassing.

And yes that’s a heart on that orange because even oranges need some love.

I can promise you all that it lived an extremely happy life though. It then quickly died and went to the orange heaven.

My day at work has been extremely uneventful and I was really looking forward to squash (the sport – not the vegetable). It’s been three weeks since I last played squash and I really missed it! We actually have a weekly date, me and my friends from school – this way we can stay in touch/catch up and work out at the same time. I am really glad that we arranged this because I sometimes feel absolutely unmotivated to move my behind but I can’t and don’t want to cancel squash without a good reason. Working out with friends makes everything so much easier.

Pre-squash I had a banana with almond butter. This is probably the best snack ever (along with the apple/almond butter combo).

I came back home starving and ate an apple. That was dinner.
Ha!
Are you kidding me? Who am I?

I didn’t crave anything but then I thought of tomatoes and mozzarella and rice. So that’s what I had.

SNB12256

1/2 mozzarella + 4 tomato slices topped with onion, salt and pepper and drizzled with olive oil. Super gourmet.

A side of non-gourmet plain rice. It always reminds me of my grandma because she always made the best rice ever (but also with tons of butter which I didn’t add today :) ). This was really random (the comment about grandma and my dinner), I know ;) .

I just watched ”Keinohrhasen” which is a German chick flick. I’m probably the only (female) person in Germany & the Swiss-German speaking part of Switzerland who hasn’t watched that film yet.  It’s surprisingly cute ;) .

But now I’ll call it a night – I have to work until 9pm tomorrow night and skip yoga so I’ll squeeze in an early morning yoga session.

Hope you had a great Thursday!
